Hi Vance.
would you be going to the presentation on friday 14th? we could speak a little more then.

you don't have to drive but if u do volunteer, it's a bonus. but no expectation to.

the great part is absolute freedom, and practically no tourists, adventure, exploration.
can buy shadow pupppets, waterfalls, rivers, beaches, sunrises/sets, meeting ppl, bird cages.

the possibly uncomfortable parts are
1) quite a bit of driving usually done at night. esp 1st and last day (900km on 1st & last day, about at most 200-300 other days. total ave 4500-5000 km)
2) possibly sleeping in the car sometimes/ camping
3) would like to see narathiwat, will pass through yala, pattani

that's a pretty long trip. will the car be a rental car or your own car?

i'm quite interested in looking for a SEA getaway. has the route been planned out? and how many pax are you targetting?

it'll be in my own car.
i've done this about 7 times. furthest i got on 1 week (9 days) was 3 pagoda pass in kanchanaburi, got a bike and did a day trip to payathonzu. another interesting one was 5 night camp on ko adang. got curious and visited the supposed dangerous parts of pattani and yala in january. the other 2 times was with my fiancee to the usual krabi and some islands off Trang. and the other 2 were my 1st forays across that border. just so that you know it's been done, not overly ambitious or head in the clouds idea.

i'm thinking 1-2max. preferably 1. need to leave some space for stuff. i'm very intrigued by the bird cages, shadow puppets and lost buddhist kingdoms and the muslim culture there now. the island camp, yala, and one other was done alone, the rest with old friends.

also i love myanmar so i'd like to stay at kawthaung for the 3 days that the visa allows. so that's prop the furthest point that i'll drive to. i.e. Ranong. if time permits, then up to Dan Singkhon at prachup khiri khan to get some wooden carvings at the border market.

Soooo, if you'd call up the google maps, the rough route is to drive through the night up to Trang. via Danok. all at once. casually make the journey to Ranong, park, cross to Kawthaung. stay 3 days, make way down to songkla. rest if needs be. stary a fresh day to Narathiwat city. might stop at pattani to visit a family that i met there.

oh, and i like to take pics, i'm good to veer off to look at anything interesting or to take a picture.
