Visa extension in China for Singapore passport holders
« Reply #2 on: Apr 14, 08, 05:15 PM »
Hi,

Does anyone know how long and how many times can a Singapore passport holder extend his stay in China? Currently, Singapore passport holders are allowed 14days visa free stay in China. I would like to travel in PRC for 3 months and had wanted to apply for a 90 days visa at the Chinese embassy but the new visa rules are giving me headaches.

Apparently, visa applicants have to provide proof of return air tickets and hotel bookings and are given a max of 30 days visa only as shown in their website.
http://www.chinaembassy.org.sg/eng/lsqw/t424958.htm

Such rules are a hassle for budget and independent travellers. There is already a huge discussion and resents in the Lonely Planet forum.
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1585596&start=150&tstart=0

Therefore, I'm thinking of dropping the idea of applying for a visa and just enter China straight. That is why I would like to know how long and how many times I can extend my stay. Thanks!

Those are outdated rules.. those angmohs never keep up with the changes in China. They only know how to complain, criticise and talkcock.

Just drop by chinese embassy and ask for 60 or 90days, or 1 yr visa.

Be there early, q is damn long esp b4 school holiday... u can get it in a day if u pay extra $. Go in by the back door.

U can also ask for 60days and make extension when in china. however, visa extensin in china in the remote areas can be difficult. BJ SH are ok.

Anyway, my experience of getting a chinese visa at the embassy was much better than the Indian... good luck.

No. The rules stated was just posted yesterday, 14 Apr 2008. I don't thinks those are outdated rules. Anyway, I will still make a trip down and try applying. Thanks.

"only know how to complain, criticise, talkcock ???"  hey, that sounds like we singaporeans as well.

this may be a "SG" travelcafe forum, but i'm sure there are some foreigners (like angmohs) who pop by to check our posts. try be a little more sensitive with your remarks.....

Latest news from MHA on this:

"At present, Singapore ordinary passport holders intending to travel to China for a period of 15 days or less do not require a visa. MFA has been informed today by the Chinese authorities that with effect from 1 July 2008, this visa-free facility would be temporarily suspended. Singapore ordinary passport holders would require a visa for entry into China. We have been given the assurance that the visa requirement is a temporary measure. The visa-free facility for travels of 15 days or less would be reinstated after the Beijing Olympics. The Chinese authorities have not informed us of the exact date when the visa-free facility will be reinstated."

actually when i crossed the border at kkh khunjerab on 16sep, the custom office already allow visa-free on that day.
some Jap travelling together with me didnt even had any china visa with them were allowed to enter china.
i think only 3 countries in the world enjoy 15days visa free entry into china... japan singapore brunei.  :hello2:
