Forum Tweak

We're tweaking the forum a bit, so you may see boards changing name and topics move about for the next 1 or 2 days.

3 changes :

The "General Discussion" board is moving to the "Tea, Coffee or Chat" chapter, where it merges with the "Tea or Coffee" board.

The "Asia" board is getting a bit big, so we're splitting it into "South & Central Asia" and "North-East Asia". Don't worry, we'll indicate which countries are where.

There seems to be some confusion about where posts about North African countries should go. Is Egypt in the "Middle East" or in "Africa" ? And since both boards are kind of smallish, we're simply merging them. Problem solved.

Any reactions ? Any suggestions ? Feel free to speak your mind.

Great!
How abt splitting The Americas into (1) North America+Caribbean and (2) Latin America?
And Europe into (1) Western & Southern Europe and (2) Eastern Europe & Russia?

Splitting the Americas would be quite easy, but wouldn't it create quite small boards ?

The European mosaic, on the other hand, would be quite problematic to split up, I think.

I guess the Guianas (and Belize) could be added to the Caribbean, but I agree Europe is way too tangled ...

BTW, would you consider the Caucasus republics as European, Central Asian, or Middle Eastern ?

so it's more cultural than geographical...?

i'm leaning towards europe... however, the people i've asked in georgia and azerbaijan claimed they're their own continent/region. =)
georgia seems to fly the EU flag alongside their own everywhere... at least 5 years ago.

Some further tweaks to the forum :

We've noticed quite some interest in things like solo travel, long term travel (more than a month), round-the-world trips, working while travelling, and career break. So we've decided to create a board for it : "Travel How ?", that you'll find under the Tea, Coffee or Chat section. We think it'll become a small but interesting board.

- "News from travellers" will become "Travel in the Media". It'll be a board, more specifically for newspaper articles & TV documentaries.
- "Blogs, Photos and travel tales" will continue as "Travelogue".
These 2 boards will move to the Tea, Coffee or Chat section.

The section "Non-Travel Stuff" will be named more aptly "Other Travel Stuff",
and the "Sports" board will be renamed "Activity & Gear", but the content doesn't really change.

I would have preferred to have Eastern Europe and former USSR, but that would include Central Asia that has now been placed under the South Asian category:)

I kind of like the idea as well, but the use of the word "former" in your post says it all. We're both of a generation that grew up with the Iron Curtain in place. (Yes WeeCheng, we're getting old !).

But the curtain has been raised. The East Bloc, or Warsaw Pact are no more. 4 of these countries are now using the euro. Remnants of that period are disappearing. Sorry for the sarcasm, but I urgently need to travel to Belarus, before it gets on its way to a modern democracy ...

A 3rd and final round of tweaks, at the moment anyway.

2 new boards :
- "Travel Safe" for health, safety, money, and insurance matters.
- "Travel Where" for destination lists such as 7 wonders, where to go if 4 weeks free, countries you've been to, places that feel like home, ...

And a reshuffle of boards :
Tea, Coffee or Chat
- General Discussions
- Travel How
- Travel Where
- Travel Safe
- Travel in the Media
- Travelogue
What to Do
- Activity & Gear
- Makan Makan
- Photography & Exhibitions
- Volunteer Work & Projects
Let's Get Organised
- Airline News & Promotions
- Buy & Sell
- Travel Buddies
